5 Easy Transfer Projects to Try Before Your First Furniture Makeover

Excited to try furniture transfers but not quite ready to tackle a dresser? Start small.

A smaller project gives you room to practice positioning your design, rubbing it onto the surface, and carefully lifting the carrier sheet. You’ll have something lovely to show for your effort, too.

Here are five project ideas we’d suggest for getting started.

1. A flat wooden plaque

A simple plaque gives you an open work area without hardware or tight corners to work around. Choose a design that fits comfortably inside the edges, and let it be the centerpiece.

Display your finished plaque on a little easel or add suitable hanging hardware.

2. A keepsake box with a flat lid

Decorate the lid of a small wooden box with a flower, bird, or botanical arrangement. Keep your first design within the flat area so you can focus on application without wrapping it around edges.

It makes a thoughtful place to keep letters, photographs, or small treasures.

3. A wide wooden picture frame

Choose a frame with a broad, flat face. A small accent in one corner is enough to add personality without overwhelming the photograph.

Remove the glass and backing while you work, and plan where the design will sit before applying it.
