Creative Ways to Use Leftover Transfer Pieces
That little flower or leafy branch left over from your last project? Give it a chance to become something beautiful.
You don’t need a full sheet of artwork to make a piece feel special. Here are a few project ideas for unused rub-on transfer pieces that are still on their original backing.
1. Dress up a small wooden box
A single floral detail can become the focal point of a keepsake box. Place it in a corner for a subtle touch, or center it on the lid and let the artwork stand on its own.
2. Create decorative gift tags
Try a small motif on a smooth, prepared wooden gift tag. Add ribbon or twine for a personal finishing touch. Coordinate the colors with your wrapping paper for a gift that feels thoughtfully put together.
3. Add detail to a picture frame
An otherwise simple frame can become something special with a little artwork in two opposite corners. Plan the placement first so the design complements the photo.
4. Make a miniature sign
A small wooden plaque is a lovely place for a leftover bird, flower, or decorative flourish. Leave some open space around the design to keep it from feeling crowded.
5. Give a drawer a little surprise
Add a small accent to the outside of a drawer’s side panel, where it becomes visible when opened. Check the clearance first and keep the design away from runners and areas that rub against the cabinet.
6. Create coordinating pieces
Use related elements from one transfer sheet across a small box, frame, and decorative plaque. They can feel like a collection without looking identical.

Arrange the pieces with their protective backing still attached. Take a quick photo of your favorite layout so you can refer to it while you work.
Follow your transfer’s instructions for compatible surfaces, preparation, application, and finishing. These ideas are starting points—the surface and products you choose still matter.
A few helpful supplies
For separating motifs, use scissors or our Craft Knife with 4 Blades on a cutting mat with the protective backing still attached. Cut between the artwork before putting it on the project, keep your fingers clear, and leave unused pieces backed for storage. Never cut against your finished furniture.
Apply each section using its included tool or our Transfer Tool, rubbing through the carrier sheet as the package directs.
