Saltwash Paint Additive

Saltwash® is a powder paint additive made with real sea salt. Mix it into paint to build a textured base coat, then layer another paint color over it and sand back selected areas for a weathered, timeworn finish. Use it on furniture, decor, and other properly prepared surfaces that accept paint. Select 10 oz or 42 oz from the Size options; paint is sold separately.

Choose your size

• 10 oz: Approximately 15–20 sq ft of coverage when mixed with paint, depending on application and texture.
• 42 oz: Approximately 65–75 sq ft of coverage when mixed with paint. This can includes a 2 oz scoop.

How to use Saltwash

1. Prepare your surface as required by the paint you are using. Pour a manageable amount of paint into a separate container and gradually stir in Saltwash powder until the mixture is thick, like cake icing. Start with a small batch and stir after every few scoops. The amount needed varies with the type of paint and the texture you want.
2. Brush the mixture on as a textured base coat, lifting the brush to form raised peaks. As the coat begins to dry, lightly sweep the brush over the peaks if you want a softer texture.
3. Let the Saltwash layer dry completely. Apply a top coat of paint without Saltwash powder.
4. After the top coat dries completely, gently sand areas where you want the textured base color to show through. Clean away sanding dust and protect the piece according to the topcoat paint’s directions.

Saltwash is used in the base coat; it is not a standalone paint or a protective sealer. Wear appropriate respiratory and eye protection while mixing the fine powder and sanding.
