Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint – Iconic Gray

Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint in Iconic Gray is a clay-based mineral, chalk-style paint for furniture, cabinets, and creative projects. Its smooth application suits layered, blended, or distressed finishes.

Choose pint (16 oz), quart (32 oz), or gallon (128 oz). Protect your finished project with a compatible Wise Owl finishing product. Screen colors can vary; use the swatch as a guide.

What it does

This clay-based mineral paint creates a matte finish with rich pigment and self-leveling application. Use it for furniture makeovers, blended colors, layered finishes, or distressed details. It can be used on properly prepared wood and previously painted or stained furniture; smooth surfaces need extra preparation for adhesion.

How to apply

1. Clean away grease, wax, and grime before sanding. Rinse off cleaner completely and let the surface dry. Remove loose or peeling finishes, scuff sand slick areas, and remove sanding dust.
2. Use Wise Owl Stain Eliminating Primer where bonding or stain blocking is needed, especially under light colors or on tannin-prone woods such as cherry, mahogany, and red oak. Follow the primer's drying directions.
3. Stir thoroughly, including the bottom of the can, and pour a working amount into a separate container. Brush on even coats, allowing the paint to dry between coats. A slightly damp synthetic brush can help reduce drag with Chalk Synthesis Paint.
4. Once dry, add your desired distressing or decorative finish. Protect the paint with a compatible Wise Owl finish such as Varnish, furniture wax, or hemp oil, selected for your project. When using Varnish, wait at least 24 hours after painting before applying it.

Coverage and curing

Approximate coverage is 80 square feet per pint or 160 square feet per quart; surface texture and the number of coats affect how much you need. A protective topcoat is required. Allow approximately 30 days for the paint to cure, and follow the chosen finish's cure time before heavy use. Dry to the touch does not mean fully cured.
